Pam Hellema

Since childhood, Pam has had an awareness of the inextricable link between the arts and wellbeing. Music and art have been lifelong companions. Pam completed a Bachelor degree in visual arts at Monash and was always intrigued by the relationship between the mind, spirit and body. This curiosity led Pam to a career in arts therapy, completing a postgraduate diploma in Arts Therapy at RMIT and a Masters in Creative Arts Therapy at MIECAT.

Pam has a passion for mental health, and has worked in community and inpatient mental health services for 14 years. Her experience spans aged care services, community development, acute hospital care, private therapy, professional development, asylum seekers support services and disability services. She is currently the senior Art Therapist at Alfred Psychiatry.

Pam is also trained in supervision and is passionate about supporting arts therapists through the professional, emotional, and practical challenges of work in this field.

In recent years, Pam has had specialist training in psychological approaches to psychosis, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Mindfulness, Transference Focused Therapy and Narrative Therapy.

Pam also walks the talk and is a musician and artist.

Pam is a professional member of the Australian Creative Arts Therapies Association.
