Art Therapy

Art Therapy offers a unique opportunity for learning and growth.

By viewing problems as an opportunity for inquiry, Art Therapy uses creative mediums and the safety of the therapeutic relationship to inform and recover physical, mental and emotional wellbeing.

“We are meaning-seeking creatures” (Irvin.D.Yalom), looking to make sense of ourselves, our experiences and our surroundings.

From the beginning we experience life via our senses – we see, hear, feel, smell and taste in every waking moment and this continues throughout our life-stages. It is via the senses that art therapy connects us with our experience helping to bring a fuller understanding to what has happened for us. By making these experiences available to the conscious mind through the arts we can better understand our needs, our motivations and ourselves.

With Art therapy the emphasis is on the process of creating and meaning-making, rather than on the end product. The therapist and client collaborate in the exploration, without judgment, with clear boundaries and shared intentions.

“Art is the meeting ground of the world inside and the world outside.”  – Elinor Ulman

Art Therapy is suitable for all ages and for all skill levels. It is not analytic, but rather facilitates the clients reflections on his/her personal creative expression.
